CHICAGO (WLS) -- A good Samaritan came to the rescue of a man who jumped off Navy Pier into Lake Michigan Saturday night.

David Martin was with his fiancée and said the man appeared to be hallucinating just before jumping into the water. David stripped down to his underwear, grabbed a life ring and jumped in after the man.

"I was able to grab the guy who was floating and get him on his back and pull him to the side of the pier, at which point security at Navy Pier showed up and they, yeah, they were able to pull him up and then after another minute or two, they were able to get me up as well," Martin said.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Martin was treated for hypothermia.
