Griffith day care worker charged with neglect after baby critically injured

GRIFFITH, Ind. (WLS) -- A day care worker in northwest Indiana is now charged with neglect after an infant was injured in her care.

According to court documents, a mother left her 5-month-old son with Rebecca Lyn Ann Bennett, 35, at Little Hands day care in Griffith last week.

About an hour later, Bennett said the baby was unconscious after another boy fell on him.

The baby was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

Police say Bennett's story didn't match the injuries. She was arrested and charged with felony neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.
