CHICAGO (WLS) -- For a year, many Chicago drivers have complained about Lincoln Towing and now the state plans to investigate the company.

The Illinois Commerce Commission says it will determine if Lincoln Towing is fit to hold a license in the state. An online petition calling for the company's business licence to be suspended garnered more than 2,800 signatures in one week. The Chicago City Council have also considered a call for hearings on regulating tow companies to prevent them from towing illegally.

Drivers say the company has a long history of improperly towing cars. The state says there have also been complaints of car owners being overcharged.
