Judge: Special prosecutor in Van Dyke case could be named in August

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago police officer who shot and killed Laquan McDonald could find out who will prosecute him on August 4.

On Thursday, a judge in Jason Van Dyke's case said he hopes to name a special prosecutor by then.

The judge told the officer that notices have been sent to state's attorneys across Illinois to see if they want to handle the case.

Van Dyke is accused of shooting Laquan McDonald 16 times in Cctober 2014 and killing him.
