Man, 31, gets 2 life sentences for deadly 2009 shooting spree

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Cook County judge sentenced a 31-year-old Chicago man on Monday to two life terms in prison for a 2009 deadly shooting spree that killed two people, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Ricardo Marchan was convicted of fire-degree murder of Michael Hernandez, 18, and Patrick Cregan, 35, on Aug 2, 2009.

After shooting and killing the two men, Marchan then used the same weapon to commit two separate armed robberies, officials said. He used a Hi-Point rifle to shoot and kill Hernandez who was also driving in a car near the intersection of North and Western avenues on the city's West Side.

Four minutes later, he fatally shot Cregan who was also in a vehicle near the intersection of LeMoyne and California, four blocks from where the first shooting occurred.

Marchan did not know any of the victims involved in the three attacks. He was captured on traffic cameras while committing the crimes, officials said.
