Man found dead in Elgin street with apparent gunshot wound to head, police say

ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- Police in the northwest suburbs are investigating after finding a man dead in the street early Sunday morning.

Elgin police officers responded to a well-being check in the 1100-block of Sherwood Avenue at around 5:30 Sunday morning and found a man approximately 30 years old lying dead in the street with what appeared to be a gunshot to his head.

The Kane County Coroner will conduct an autopsy on Monday to determine the official cause of death.
