Man killed after car slams into utility pole in Schererville

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (WLS) -- A 20-year-old man was killed in a crash in Schererville, Indiana, Tuesday morning after the vehicle he was driving slammed into a utility pole near U.S. 30 and Joliet Street.

The Lake County coroner identified the man as Matthew Harrison, of the 600-block of Avenue H in Griffith, Ind. The coroner said he died of blunt force trauma and was pronounced at 4:50 a.m.

Chopper 7HD flew over the scene of the crash around 6:20 a.m., about two hours after the crash occurred. Emergency crews, the coroner and crash scene investigators were still on the scene. A mangled, white car had sheets draped over the sides.

The crash remains under investigation.
