BERWYN, Ill. (WLS) -- A man wielding an ax damaged more than 15 vehicles in Berwyn before leading officers on a pursuit through nearby Cicero, police said.
At about 11 a.m. Saturday, vehicle owners reported that the man was swinging the ax at vehicles along both Wesley and Clarence avenues near 37th Street in the southwest suburbs.
Witnesses said the man was driving a light-colored Mercedes SUV.
The man then led police a car pursuit from Berwyn to Cicero and back, hitting a vehicle near Ogden and Wisconsin avenues. Officers eventually nabbed him at 19th and Ridgeland.
Police were still gathering information late Saturday, and charges had not yet been filed.
A motive for the attack was not released by police.
Sami Abu-Assaf said the man hit his silver Toyota several times.
"The window was smashed in by an ax, three ax holes in the window and my windshield and my passenger, driver side mirror nothing," Abu-Assaf said.
