CHICAGO (WLS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel has blocked ride-sharing company Uber from making airport pickups at Chicago airports.

Uber petitioned the city to let their drivers make trips to and from O'Hare and Midway arports.

The city says it recently passed a set of regulations for ride-sharing companies and it has no plans to change them.

A group representing taxi cab drivers applauded the decision, saying airports are a major source of taxi revenue.

"While there is still a lot of work left to do in order to level the playing field between Chicago's licensed professional cab drivers and those who drive for rideshare services like UberX and Lyft, this is a great step toward the fairness cab drivers deserve as ambassadors of the city," said Cheryl Miller, a Cab Drivers United/AFSCME Council 31 member and Chicago cab driver of the last 20 years.
