Mom claims son injured by Country Club Hills school employee

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (WLS) -- A suburban mother is outraged because of what she says happened to her 8-year-old son at school.

The mom says a school employee hurt her child while forcing him to sit with a group of children who had previously bullied him. The boy's mother said her son suffered a sprained wrist and elbow.

"It felt like my arm popped. When she pulled my arm, it felt like it popped," said Jaythan Evans, 8.

Jaythan and his mother said it happened Tuesday at Sykuta Elementary in Country Club Hills. The third-grader was told by a female staffer to sit at a table with other children, but Jaythan refused, saying those kids had been mean to him before.

"She grabbed me by my arm, and she pulled me and turned me, and she threw me down the chair," Jaythan said.

A school nurse called his mother, who then brought Jaythan to a hospital before filing a police report.

"It seems like they're trying to handle these kids like they're criminals or something. They're in the third grade. So I'm just very frustrated. I feel like my son's not safe. He worries about going to school," said Kyndra Byrd, Jaythan's mother.

A spokesperson for Country Club Hills District #160 said in a written statement: "The District is investigating the reported incident regarding the student. As a precautionary measure the staff member has been placed on administrative leave with pay until the investigation is complete. Also, we have contacted DCFS to report the incident."
