GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- Police say a 16-year-old boy has been shot and killed in a Gary housing complex.

Rashaud Lewis, of the 1000 block of West 22nd Avenue, was shot Monday across from Roosevelt College and Career Academy in the 2300-block of Harrison, less than a half-mile from his home. Police say he was found lying in the grass.

The Lake County coroner's office in northwest Indiana says the 16-year-old was taken to Northlake Methodist Hospital and was pronounced dead that evening. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Gary police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Decanter says investigators were trying to piece together details.

No one is in custody.
