Police: 2 fatally shot during Super Bowl party in Brighton Park

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man and woman were found fatally shot Monday morning in the Brighton Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Police believe they were killed during a Super Bowl party. No one was in custody Monday evening.

The bodies were discovered at about 7:30 a.m. in a home in the 2500-block of West 46th Street, police said. The landlord discovered them.

The 33-year-old woman and man, approximately 20 to 30 years old, was not immediately identified. The woman was wounded in the torso and the man was shot in the head.

Some neighbors said they heard an argument Sunday night during the Super Bowl. Investigators found signs of a party that been interrupted by violence, police said.

"Neighbors heard a sound, didn't call because they thought it was just Super Bowl related activities and I think the message to take away from all of this is when in doubt call and report," said Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th Ward).

In recent weeks, Brighton Park has experienced a dramatic increase in violent crime -- a 300 percent jump over this time last year. Most of it has been gang related, but Lopez said this does not to appear to be the case in this instance.

"We're trying to confirm whether the individual had any gang affiliations, but right now that seems to be secondary to what happened. This may have just been a party gone wrong at this point," Lopez said. null
