Police identify girl, 3, who died after being found in van

DURHAM, N.C. -- Durham police are investigating the death of a young girl who was found in a van by a family member.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Hearthside Street near Sargent Place around 7 p.m. Monday evening. They said they found 3-year-old Leslie Ramirez unconscious and she died a short time later. Neighbors say CPR was performed but is was unsuccessful.

An eyewitness says someone broke one of the van's windows and pulled the girl out

Neighbors told ABC11 the girl looked like she was left in the vehicle for some time during the heat of the day. An eyewitness said she was outside grilling when she saw someone break one of the van's windows and carry the little girl out.

Police said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
