Police issue alert for prolific North Side burglar

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are warning North Side residents about a prolific burglar stealing items from parking lots and lobbies of condo buildings in neighborhoods including Lincoln Park, Lakeview and Lakeview East. Police say the man has stolen personal items from buildings in the 500-block of West Briar, 1200-block of West Diversey, 2700-block of North Racine, 900-block of West Belmont, and the 600-block of West Wrightwood where he stole items belonging to 15 different victims in one building.

Police say once the suspect gains access to the building or parking garage, using a tool to pry open doors, he steals bicycles, mail and other personal items. Police also say he has been seen with a shopping cart at some incidents.

Police describe the man as a heavy set black male with a bald head and a mustache. He has been seen wearing a hoodie. Police also released surveillance photos of the suspect.
