Queen guitarist wants to dissociate music from Trump campaign

Brian May, the guitarist of Queen, wants to dissociate his music from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign.

Trump used the song "We Are The Champions" during a televised campaign speech.

"This is not an official Queen statement, but I can confirm that permission to use the track was neither sought nor given. We are taking advice on what steps we can take to ensure this use does not continue," May wrote on his website, brianmay.com.

May went on to say that regardless of the band's views on Trump, it has always been against their policy to allow Queen music to be used as a political campaigning tool.

"Our music embodies our own dreams and beliefs, but it is for all who care to listen and enjoy," he wrote.

May linked to another page that contained what he said are letters of complaints.

At the end of one letter May wrote, "We certainly have not approved this use of WATC - I will make sure we take what steps we can to dissociate ourselves from Donald Trump's unsavoury [sic] campaign."
