Rash of armed robberies reported in South Shore

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police have issued community alerts warning residents of Chicago's South Shore neighborhood of half a dozen armed robberies reported since in the last month.

Police said on the nights of Aug. 23 and Sept. 11, two people were robbed at gunpoint in the 7800-block of South Saginaw Avenue. The suspect in those robberies is described as an African American man, 15 to 18 years old, approximately 5 ft. 7 in. and 130lbs with a dark complexion.

Police said two more people were robbed at gunpoint by an offender who took their cellphones; one around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the 7700-block of South Constance Avenue, the other just before 1 a.m. on Sept. 7 in the 1900-block of East 75th Street. The suspect in those robberies is described as a black male between 16 and 20 years old, 5 ft. 4 in. tall and 120 to 140 lbs. with a dark complexion and hair worn in an afro.

Police also said two people were robbed at gunpoint just after getting off of or while waiting for the arrival of a CTA bus. The first victim was robbed around 5 a.m. on Aug. 30 in the 7700-block of South South Shore Drive; the second victim was robbed just before 1 a.m. on Sept. 4 in the 3100-block of East 79th Street.

Those suspects were described as two to three black men between the ages of 19 and 23. One suspect was described as 6 ft. to 6 ft. 1 in., 160 to 170 lbs. with a light complexion and a Mohawk. The other two suspects were described as 5 ft. 7 in. to 5 ft. 8 in. tall, one with short hair and the other with dreadlocks.
