State trooper critical after being struck by car on I-294

BERKELEY, Ill. (WLS) -- An Illinois State trooper is in critical condition Saturday night after getting struck on northbound I-294 near St. Charles Road.

He was conducting a traffic stop when authorities say a passing motorist in a maroon Honda struck the trooper.

They say the driver tried to get away and crashed into a silver Acura, causing that vehicle to flip over.

Seven people in the Acura were hurt.

The driver of the Honda was taken into custody with charges pending.
