CHICAGO (WLS) -- The teenager accused of attacking the son of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel near the family's Ravenswood home was ordered held in custody due to his long police record, the judge said.

Zach Emanuel was robbed in the 4200 block of North Hermitage on the city's Northwest Side on December 19.

Cook County Judge Lori Wolfson said the 18-year-old boy, who has not been identified, has been arrested 11 times and had contact with the Chicago Police Department 32 times. He was on probation for possession of stolen motor vehicle at the time of the mugging, officials said, and allegedly admitted to police that he struck Zach Emanuel, took his phone, and demanded his passcode.

The teenager, who was 17 when Zach Emanuel was mugged, is charged as juvenile with aggravated battery in a public way and robbery.

The teenager's trial is scheduled to begin on March 9.

His parents were in court Monday, but made no comment.
