Girl, 10, mourned after camping accident
Allison Spahr, 10, was killed when a tree fell on her tent during a camping trip.

BARABOO, Wis. (WLS) -- Allison Spahr, 10, was killed while camping with her family when a tree fell on their tent early Sunday morning.

Allison's brother, 14-year-old Kyle, was able to climb out of the tent but her father, 40-year-old Kevin, was trapped. He survived. Allison was pronounced dead at the scene around 4 a.m.

Her father says Allison was a happy child who loved the outdoors.

"Sweet, charming, energetic, delightful. She was the youth of our family, obviously. In her 10-year-old kind of way, she would smile and she would laugh, and say 'Just keep living life, Dad,'" said Kevin Spahr, father.

The Cary, Ill., family was camping about 40 miles northwest of Madison, Wis., at the Ice Age Campground when a storm hit, knocking over a large tree. State park officials say accidents like this are rare, and the tree appeared to be healthy.

The girl's father says he wanted to leave the park Saturday when he heard of bad weather coming, but that she insisted on staying there.
