Wear orange to end gun violence
Wear Orange Day is June 2, Hadiya Pendleton's birthday. She was fatally shot in a park in 2013. Wear orange to honor her and help end gun violence in Chicago.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Friday will be Wear Orange Day. It's a day dedicated to ending gun violence in memory of Hadiya Pendleton.

She was shot and killed in 2013 while hanging out with friends in a park in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood. June 2 would have been her 20th birthday.

Nearly 200 national monuments will turn orange to honor Hadiya and other victims of gun violence, including Niagara Falls, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Empire State Building.

Hadiya's parents, Cleopatra and Nathaniel Pendleton, explained how people can get involved and what's happening at the Chicago Project Orange event on Saturday at the Harold Washington Playlot Park in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood.
