Woman found murdered in Gary apartment building identified

GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- A woman found fatally shot in the head in an apartment in Gary, Indiana, has been identified.

The victim was identified as Donether Barnes, 56, of Gary, according to the Lake County Coroner's office.

Her death was ruled a homicide.

Police said about 6:10 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call for service in the 2100-block of West 5th Avenue and found Barnes at the rear door of the apartment building. She was pronounced dead at scene.

The shooting is under investigation.
