NEW YORK -- A woman was struck and killed by a piece of debris that flew off a Greenwich village construction site during Tuesday's high winds.

The 37-year-old was walking and talking on her cell phone when she was struck on West 12th Street at 5:50 p.m.

She was on the north side of the block, passing the entrance to a parking lot entrance, when a 4-by-8 sheet of plywood, separated from the security fence across the street.

The wind blew the plywood across the street striking the woman and causing her to hit her head on the wall of a parking garage.

She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
