CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman was rescued from the Chicago River by divers from the Chicago Fire Department, officials said.

The woman was in the water early Saturday morning just west of Chinatown near Cermak and Canal, officials said. A battalion chief jumped into the river, stabilizing her until other firefighters - including divers jumping into the river from a helicopter - arrived on-scene to complete the rescue.

The victim is in critical condition, officials said.

Three firefighters were transported to the hospital as a precaution.
