Woman struck after Gold Coast fight
A woman was struck by a vehicle early Wednesday after a fight broke out in the Gold Coast neighborhood.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A fight between several women in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood ended with one of them being run over.

Police said the 22-year-old victim and a 21-year-old woman were involved in an argument with another group of women, one of whom pulled out a knife and threatened them near the corner of East Elm and North State streets around 2:50 a.m.

To get away from the situation, a 21-year-old female driver got into a dark SUV and pulled out while her friend was trying to get in. The driver accidentally ran over her friend and traveled a short distance before stopping.

She was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Police are looking into what led to the fight between the two groups of women. No one is in custody.

The driver was cited for failure to render aid, police said.
