Woman struck by hit-and-run driver in stolen car during SW Side chase, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was arrested after he allegedly struck a woman on Chicago's Southwest Side while fleeing police in a stolen car.

Officers spotted a stolen vehicle in the 5300-block of South Western Avenue around 9:45 p.m. Monday. They pursued the driver, but lost sight of the vehicle as it sped northbound on Western.

Authorities said the driver struck a woman crossing the street in the 4900-block of South Western and kept going. The stolen vehicle crashed two blocks away, in the 4700-block of South Western.

The driver was taken into custody. Police said charges are pending against him.

The woman was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital with a broken collarbone. Police said she is expected to be OK.
