LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. (WLS) -- A suburban mother says she understands people make mistakes, but cannot understand why a driver who cut her son off and caused him to crash did not stop at the scene.

"As a human being, morally, you just don't leave the scene of an accident," said Christina Morales.

Nicholas Morales, 28, was riding his motorcycle on Route 47 in Lake in the Hills when a driver turned left from the far right lane.

Morales went into a skid after hitting the brakes. He suffered a broken collarbone and ribs.

"That was a person you left on the side of the road. I just got lucky that I survived," Morales said.

Morales said the driver was a woman in a champagne-colored Cadillac.
