Customers speak out against proposed gas rate increases

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Customers spoke out against a proposed rate increase for Peoples and North Shore Gas at a public hearing held by the Illinois Commerce Commission.

The proposed increase involves the monthly fixed charge to receive gas service. For Peoples Gas customers, the increase would be almost $10 a month up to $36.50.

For North Shore customers the increase would be nearly $6 a month.

The ICC did not take action on the matter Wednesday.
