BERKELY, Ill. (WLS) -- A west suburban Berkley woman plans on filing a lawsuit Monday after a police officer shot her pit bull.

The woman tells ABC7 Eyewitness News that her dog was outside with her kids Friday night when police shot it.

"They said that the dog had lunged at the officer, that she was being aggressive, rough with the children, so that's pretty much all I have gotten from them so far," said Gina Stone, the dog's owner. "It's not right. It wasn't right for my kids to see that, it wasn't fair to the dog for that to happen."

She says police cited her for a vicious dog at large, no tags and disorderly conduct.

Messages for Berkley Police have not been returned.

The dog is expected to recover.
