OCEANSIDE, Calif. (WLS) -- Lifeguards aren't just for people. They came to the rescue of a dolphin that was tangled in rope near Oceanside Pier in California.
The lifeguards said Thursday it seemed like the dolphin knew they were there to help.
The dolphin, which appeared exhausted from struggling and stressed to people who stopped the animal from the pier, remained calm until they could get the rope cut off.
One lifeguard said after it was free, the dolphin turned around, swam between them, looked up and moved its head from side to side for a few seconds.
Then the dolphin slowly swam away.
