A 31-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with the shooting death of a veteran Pennsylvania police officer.

NEW FLORENCE, Pa. -- A 31-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with the shooting death of a veteran Pennsylvania police officer.



The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the man, who authorities have identified as Ray Shetler Jr., was arrested after a six-hour manhunt about 3 a.m. walking near a power plant outside of New Florence.



The officer who was killed has been identified as St. Clair Township Officer Lloyd Reed.



Police were called to a domestic situation in New Florence shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Reed was shot and taken to Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown. He was pronounced dead there.



Pennsylvania State Trooper Stephen Limani tells the newspaper that Shetler was being treated for a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. Shetler has not been charged with a crime.



New Florence is 56 miles east of Pittsburgh.
