Budget deadlock blocks flood aid for Des Plaines residents

The state budget deadlock is blocking promised flooding assistance for some suburban families who live near the Des Plaines River.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has committed $2 million to help purchase and tear down 21 homes in Des Plaines.

Many of those residents live in the often-flooded area along Big Bend Drive. Residents counting on that buyout money to relocate will now have to wait.
