Prince Harry interviews Barack Obama, declines to discuss wedding guest list

LONDON (WLS) -- Former President Barack Obama sat down with Britain's Prince Harry to reflect on his post-presidential life.

Prince Harry acted as a guest host for a BBC radio program and interviewed Obama about the ways his life has changed since he left office.

"I wake up later," Obama told the prince. "And you know, it's wonderful to be able to control your day in a way you can't as president. But the things that are important to me haven't changed."

One of those things is his relationship with his wife, Michelle Obama, Obama said when asked about his experience on January 20, 2016.

"You know, the first thing that went through my mind, sitting across from Michelle, how thankful I was that she had been my partner through that whole process."

"And for us to be able to come out of that intact, that our marriage was strong, we're still each other's best friends," Obama said. "The sense that there was a completion and that we had done the work that preserved our integrity, and left us whole, and that we hadn't fundamentally changed, I think was a satisfying feeling."

Prince Harry joined the regular BBC anchors for another interview Wednesday to talk about celebrating Christmas with his family and new fiancée, Meghan Markle.

"The family loved having her there," Prince Harry said of Markle. "There's always that family part of Christmas, there's always that work element there as well, and I think together we had an amazing time."

The anchors also asked whether Obama would be invited to the next royal wedding - but the prince declined to answer.

"I don't know about that - we haven't even put the invite or the guest list together," Prince Harry said. "Who knows if he's going to be invited or not - I wouldn't want to ruin that surprise."
