SPRINGFIELD (WLS) -- Governor Bruce Rauner says Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is not doing his job.

He blasted the Madigan and Democratic lawmakers for leaving town during the budget impasse. House Democrats resume their session April 4.

Governor Rauner says this is no time for vacations.

"We're in the middle of a budget crisis. We're in the middle of a higher education funding crisis. And we're in the middle of a MAP grant funding crisis and they leave town with no solutions. It's wrong they should get back here and do their jobs," Rauner said.

Madigan's spokesperson issued a statement saying he's ''embarrassed the governor could not explain his campaign finance actions" and he "wonders what Rauner is hiding."
