WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. House of Representatives has denied a request by Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth that would allow her to vote by proxy for the rest of the year.

Duckworth is pregnant and doctors have advised her to remain in Illinois for the remainder of her pregnancy. She is expecting her first child next month.

Duckworth asked democrats to break with precedent and allow her to vote.

They said no, saying it could start a slippery slope.

Duckworth says she accepts the decision.
