SURFSIDE, S.C. -- The family of a teenage girl missing in South Carolina is pleading for her safe return.

"Maybe she could be gone for a day, it's been too long," said McKenna Spindler's mom, Karen Spindler, told WBTW-TV.

Jay and Karen Spindler have searched for their daughter since Thursday. They found out she was missing only a few hours after police say Spindler was last seen at Chick Fil A in Surfside Beach. She wouldn't answer her phone.

Since then the family has done everything they can, including using Jay Spindler's resources as the GM of Sam's Club, to hand out flyers.

But the parents say the community has been the biggest help. Social media also helped spread the word of the missing 16-year-old.

A Facebook group called Help Find McKenna Spindler got nearly 11,000 followers in just a few short days.

Police believe she may have left on her own, but her parents say whatever the case, their daughter is only 16, and could be in danger.

"l don't know if she is alone or she's with somebody, but she's 16, and I need her home," said Karen Spindler.
