CHICAGO (WLS) -- With the completion of the Shanghai Tower, Chicago's Willis Tower was pushed out of the top ten for the world's tallest buildings.

This is the first time since its completion in 1974 that the 422-meter Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) has not been in the Top 10 list, as compiled by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). The Sears Tower was once the tallest in the world- and stayed in the Top 10 for 41 years before the Shanghai Tower pushed it out of the rankings.

In the past four decades, skyscrapers are reaching new heights in Asia and the Middle East. With that continuing trend, the Willis is expected to be pushed out of even the top 20 tallest buildings within the next five years, CTBUH said.

At 632 meters, Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world. The tower is divided into nine "vertical neighborhoods," the CTBUH said, that rise from a sky lobby.

The tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
