River otter equipped with transmitter released into Cook County forest preserve

A river otter has returned to a Cook County forest preserve equipped with a bit of technology.

Wildlife experts hope the transmitter they implanted will help them learn more about the otter's habits, habitat and the challenges they face.

A hundred years ago, the river otter was nearly extinct in Illinois.
