Runners make a mess at Rugged Maniac 5K

JOLIET, Ill. (WLS) -- One of the largest obstacle races in the U.S. is coming to Joliet August 27, 2016. The Rugged Maniac 5K brings crazy obstacles, a fun festival, and thousands of revelers to CPX Sports. The race features twenty-five wild obstacles to test runners along a three-mile off-road course. Those racing will have to pass through underground tunnels, jump on trampolines, and run through fire and mud.

Along with the race, runners have an opportunity to raise money for the American Cancer Society. You can setup a fundraising account here. The Joliet race is one of 27 stops across North America. Kaitlyn Long, event director for the Rugged Maniac, joined ABC 7 live from Joliet as the runners took off.
