Chicago area schools compete in marching band competition

Marching Band and Drumline Festival
Local high school marching bands competed in the 12th annual Olympian Marching Band and Drumline Festival.

OLYMPIA FIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- Chicago area high school marching bands competed Saturday in the 12th annual Olympian Marching Band & Drumline Festival.

The competition was held at Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields. Thornridge High School in Dolton went up against Thornwood High School in South Holland in the "Battle of the Bands" competition. The winner was Thornwood.

The Rich Central Band Booster Organization hosted the event with support from Chicago Defender Charities.

Bands and drum lines from schools in Chicago and the south suburbs competed in both the Corps style and Southern Show style marching band tradition.
