CHICAGO (WLS) -- Enriqueta Delgado is a familiar face in the ABC7 newsroom; she works nights as a custodian, and her hard work is all about setting an example for her children.

On Friday, Delgado had a lot to smile about. The proud Northwest mother witnessed yet another graduation this month for one of her kids.

"One from college, one from high school and one from 8th grade, it's amazing," said Delgado.

Amazing, given where Delgado came from. The 42-year-old mother of four was born in Mexico. Days after her birth, Delgado's mother abandoned her, leaving her to grow up in poverty.

"I didn't have a bed, sleeping on the floor with a blanket," said Delgado.

When Delgado married her husband, Gabriel, 23 years ago, they were determined to give their children a better life by raising them in America.

"We keep telling them to go to school, education is key to getting a better job," said Gabriel Delgado.

Delgado's son Danny is the first in the family to graduate from college. He received his diploma a few weeks ago from Columbia College.

His graduation was followed by younger brother Gabriel, who graduated from Taft High School last week.

Friday, Alexandria graduated from 8th grade.

"I don't have words," Delgado said. "I am very proud."

And her kids have a lot to be proud of, too.

"I'm really proud of her for being strong through these years and helping us," said Alexandria.

"Honestly, she's the best mother you could ever have," said Gabriel. "She pushed us to do our best."

"She never gave up on me," said Danny. "She kept pushing me further in life."

The Delgado family plans on having one party for all three of their graduates on Saturday.
