CHICAGO (WLS) -- There is a new big push to discourage young people from trying to use fake IDs.

Illinois Secretary Of State Jesse White highlighted the penalties today.

Anyone convicted of possessing or using a fake driver's license or ID card could face a prison sentence and a fine, and their driver's license will be suspended.

The state is launching a public awareness campaign to make people aware of the penalties.
