Mariachi Heritage Foundation celebrates Cinco de Mayo with live music
CHICAGO (WLS) -- A band of Chicago students from The Mariachi Heritage Foundation helped ABC7 celebrate Cinco de Mayo with live music Thursday morning.
A video of their recent performance for the Chicago White Sox went viral on Facebook. It reached more than 400,000 people, was viewed more than 156,000 times, received around 5,200 likes and was shared around 2,100 times.

About The Mariachi Heritage Foundation:
The Mariachi Heritage Foundation was created in 2013 to bring mariachi music education to underserved Chicago schools. The K-12 grade standards-based program is the first of its kind in Chicago, allowing students to meet general music requirements through a structured curriculum in performance taught as part of the school day.
More than 1,700 students take part in the Mariachi Heritage Foundation program, preserving the rich cultural heritage of mariachi music and other Mexican heritage arts. Participating schools include: Gary Elementary, Davis Elementary, Hurley Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Cluster, Marsh Elementary, UCSN Soccer Academy, Edwards Elementary, and Calmeca Academy.
The Mariachi Heritage Foundation's all-city ensemble program features advanced students selected through a rigorous audition process and meets on Saturday mornings at Back of the Yards College Preparatory High School.
