Officers from the City of Miami Police Department accompanied a 7-year-old boy to his school's annual "Take Your Dad to School" breakfast after his father died.

The police department shared a heartfelt video on September 29 on Facebook, detailing Oscar's story, whose father was deported from the U.S. three years ago. "A year later, on Oscar's birthday, his father was killed in Honduras," according to ABC affiliate WSOC.

Every year, Oscar's school has a "Take Your Dad to School" breakfast, but Oscar has never been able to participate. Lisa Portillo, Oscar's mother, reached out to the police department, asking if an officer would be interested in accompanying her son.

Four officers ended up accompanying Oscar to the event, and were even given a pledge to sign "promising to support Oscar, help him be successful at school" and "encourage (him) to do his best every day," according to WSOC.

Portillo thanked the officers on Facebook for their kind gesture.
