Hundreds of veterans and active duty service-members are competing in the 5th Annual Valor Games Midwest.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Hundreds of veterans and active duty service-members are headed to Chicago to compete in the 5th Annual Valor Games Midwest.

The three-day event begins with opening ceremonies at Soldier Field on August 18, 2015. World Sport Chicago hosts the games. The nonprofit honors those who have served our country with this regional, introductory competition for injured, ill and wounded veterans and active duty service members. During the three-day event, athletes compete in discus, shot put, cycling, indoor rowing, powerlifting and archery.

World Sport Chicago and BP invite everyone to support for the athletes virtually on the Wall of Thanks. Log onto Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to post personal messages of appreciation by using the hashtag #WallofThanks. The messages will be displayed at the Valor Games for everyone to see. Their goal is to gather 1,000 notes of thanks that will be displayed at the Valor Games Midwest as a special display of appreciation for the 200 wounded, ill and injured veterans and active-duty service members participating in the event.

Executive Director of World Sport Chicago, Kam Buckner, and U.S. Navy Veteran, Meosha Thomas, visited ABC 7 to speak about the upcoming Valor Games.
