Gunshot victim critical after rescue from Fox River in South Elgin, officials say

SOUTH ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- The victim of a gunshot wound is in critical condition after being rescued from the Fox River in South Elgin, fire officials said.

South Elgin & Countryside fire units responded to a report of a victim in the river just above the dam Thursday, discovering that the victim was trapped under a large log.

Fire officials said the victim, who had a gunshot wound, was unconscious but breathing at the time. The victim was transported to Provena St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition.

No other details have been released.
