South Shore train strikes car on tracks near Ogden Dunes

PORTAGE TWP, Ind. (WLS) -- A South Shore Line train struck a disabled vehicle on the tracks near Ogden Dunes on Monday evening.

The vehicle ended up on the tracks when it was involved in an accident with another vehicle on U.S. 12 at Hillcrest, according to Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Police Chief Robert Byrd.

An ambulance has been sent to the scene. No information was immediately available on any injuries.

Eastbound Train #11 is currently stopped at the scene, according to an alert on the South Shore Line website. Westbound Train #20 is running 45-60 minutes late due to the obstruction blocking the tracks.
