The Special Olympics Torch is now lit in Chicago ahead of this weekend's anniversary celebration.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Special Olympics Torch is now lit in Chicago ahead of this weekend's anniversary celebration.

The Flame of Hope, as it's called, was flown to Chicago Thursday afternoon via United Airlines.

The 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics will be celebrated this weekend at Soldier Field.

The torch is guarded by a group of nearly 100,000 law enforcement officers known as the Guardians of the Flame

The group has raised millions of dollars for Special Olympics.
