CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC7 has teamed up with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Greater Chicago Food Depository for "Spirit of Giving: Helping Fight Hunger."

On Thursday, the Greater Chicago Food Depository had a mobile food pantry at St. Elizabeth at 41st and Michigan, one of more than 600 food pantries supported by the GCFD.

Some describe this part of the Bronzeville neighborhood as a "food desert" where it's hard to find fresh fruits and vegetables, so this pantry is serving a substantial need in the community.

"The face of hunger is changing. Increasingly, a lot of these people are people who have jobs, people have been laid off or have seen their hours cut back. In fact, more than 90 percent of the people who we serve have a roof over their heads," said Paul Morello, Greater Chicago Food Depository.

The food pantry is open to anyone who lives in the city of Chicago.
