Cavs to sign Sasha Kaun; center projected to back up Timofey Mozgov

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a contract with center Sasha Kaun, sources said.

Kaun is expected to sign a two-year deal, with the second year being a player option, sources said.

Kaun, 30, was drafted in the second round by the Cavs in 2008. He has played the last seven seasons with CKSA Moscow after playing atKansas.

A 7-footer, he averaged 9.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 30 Euroleague games last season.

Kaun has a history with Cavs coach David Blatt, who coached him on the Russian national team. Kaun was on the Russian team in 2012 that won an Olympic bronze.

He projects as a backup to Cavs starter and fellow Russian Timofey Mozgov.
