Grigson, who spoke to the media during his end-of-season interview session, said Richardson will be "lumped into that conversation with guys this offseason."
"Where's he fit? Where's he going? Is his arrow up, down, sideways, 45-degree angle?" Grigson said. "And we have to figure all these things out with guys in all different types of situations on this roster. There are guys across the board that are in a lot of different situations. But, again, when the coaches come back, when we seeing what's actually out there -- we have an idea, draft, juniors that have declared and things like that -- once that evolves we'll have a much better feel for what we need to do."
Things officially hit rock bottom for Richardson when he was inactive for the divisional playoff game at Denveron Jan. 11 and then was suspended for two games for missing the team's walk through on Jan. 17. Richardson told ESPN.com on Jan. 18 that he missed walk-through because he was "dealing with a very serious family emergency ... I wouldn't purposely just miss walk-through."
Richardson served the first game of his suspension in the AFC Championship Game at New Englandand he'll serve the second game at the team's discretion next season if he's back, according to a league official, since they did not make the Super Bowl. The suspension of Richardson will allow the Colts to walk away from the $3.18 million in salary guaranteed for next season.
The Colts gave up a first-round draft pick to theCleveland Browns for Richardson in September 2013 with the vision of pairing him with quarterback Andrew Luck for years to come. Luck was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft and Richardson was the No. 3 pick in that draft.
Richardson, instead, has been a major disappointment.
He lost his starting job to Donald Brown late in the 2013 season. Richardson regained it this season, but lost it to Daniel Herron in Week 16. Richardson was the third running back behind Herron and Zurlon Tipton in the Jan. 4 playoff game against Cincinnati. Richardson only played one snap against the Bengals.
Richardson yet to rush for 100 yards in a game and has only totaled 977 yards in 29 games with the Colts.
